The Independent are once again in the Gervaisian ©2008 Chicken and Mash News (see story below). This time it is as a direct response by Ricky on his official blog to a ludicrous non-story published by one of their columnists, Henry Deedes. Mr. Deedes has certainly got up Ricky's nose, with Ricky venting his annoyance with a wonderfully written prose that caused me to almost fall of my chair I was laughing so hard. For the full effect, read his comments normally, then read them a second time while imagining Ricky saying them out loud. Brilliant.
A large number of news sites have been reporting on the Independent's Men from the Pru story. This is of course a good thing, because it means as well as having the upcoming Ghost Town and This Side of the Truth to look forward to, we can now start getting sweaty palms at the thought of The Men From The Pru hitting the screens. When I was a kid I remember a man from the Pru visiting every so often. I often wondered if he was shagging my mum, to be honest. As far as I know, we never had any policies with them...
The biggest news at the moment is of course the imminent release of the Ghost Town movie, featuring our Ricky in his first Hollywood starring role. If the trailer is anything to go by, which of course it should be, the film is destined to be another rung on Ricky's ladder to comedy genius immortality.
*Update* AintItCool have a screening report for the film. Click on the link for the full story, but suffice to say, they loved it. Did we expect anything less? No.
From the report:
Overall, this was one of the better rom-coms I've seen in a good long while. Certainly the funniest, to the point that we should consider putting into into a com-rom category. The laughs come first in this flick, but the heart the cast injects keeps it moving. Have no fear gents, this is one of those rare and beautiful creatures you don't often see: the genuinely funny and entertaining Date Movie.
Also making the news is the sale of The Office franchise to Russia. Although not expected to be heavily involved in the production of the Russian version of the Slough-based classic, Ricky Gervais is probably very happy at the news. "I am very happy at the news", would be his expected response, if asked.
